Insurance Job Description

Our client's major focus is on developing insurance products that provide superior coverage in the event of loss to home, automobile, farm, or business. They offer a long term history of financial strength and stability. They presently offer an opportunity to join their highly successful organization in the underwriting area as a Commercial Lines Underwriter. The Commercial Lines Underwriter is responsible for risk selection, pricing and negotiation with agency personnel within assigned authority levels.  The Underwriter and District Manager work together with the underwriting team to meet loss ratio, written premium, and service objectives. This is an immediate need.

Commercial Underwriter Responsibilities:

  • Accepts or rejects and assigns proper classifications and pricing new business based on underwriting criteria, investigative reports and loss history.

  • Reviews renewal policies for acceptability and prices the renewals based on risk characteristics and market conditions.

  • Travels to agencies to strengthen company/agency relationships, to discuss underwriting issues, and for on and off site training.

  • Communicates with District Manager(s) and departmental and company personnel regarding underwriting issues.

  • Communicate with agency personnel on underwriting issues.

  • Assist co-workers and agents in developing their Commercial Lines knowledge and skills.

  • Recommends changes in rates and products to meet company, departmental and individual objectives.

Commercial Underwriter Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma. Undergraduate degree preferred.

  • 2+ years Commercial Lines underwriting experience.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Knowledge of Commercial Lines coverages
