Insurance Job Description

Our client is a medium-sized reinsurer with worldwide operations. They operate in over 120 countries, developing value added, innovative and made to measure products and services and making long-term commitments to their clients, namely insurers and large corporations. They currently offer an opportunity to join their company in a Catastrophe Modeler position in either their Miami, FL or Chicago area operation. This professional will support the underwriters in North America through the provision of catastrophe risk analytics. Will provide operational support to the reinsurance underwriting of catastrophe risk for both existing and new cedants using models & tools. Will analyze catastrophe risk in Caribbean, Central and South Americas in support of technical pricing. This position has many opportunities to contribute to wider team initiatives and special hazard research projects. 

Catastrophe Analyst Responsibilities:

  • Pricing, Accumulation, and Portfolio optimization.

  • Develop pricing/accumulation methodologies for territories or lines with no models or where those available are considered unsuitable.

  • Review data received from cedants/brokers for reasonableness and signpost data deficiencies with underwriters.

  • Utilize exposure data and perform analyses in catastrophe models.

  • Interpret modeling results and communicate to underwriters. 

Catastrophe Analyst Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of applicable experience within a property casualty insurance/reinsurance environment required.

  • Masters degree or PhD in natural science, mathematics, engineering or geography.

  • MS Office applications.

  • GIS, VBA, SQL, RMS skills required.

  • Strong analytical, problem solving approach.

  • Strong organizational skills.
