Insurance Job Description

Our client offers a wide variety of life insurance products, including: Traditional life insurance, Term life insurance, Universal life insurance. They hold an "Excellent" rating by AM Best. And offer a very employee friendly work environment. Due to an increase in business, they are adding new staff to their underwriting department.   

Life Underwriter Responsibilities:

  • Reviews insurance applications to evaluate, classify, and rate each risk to determine acceptability, coverage, and pricing.

  • Examines all forms to determine degree of risk.

  • Determines whether to accept, modify, or decline risks within authority.

  • Determines if reinsurance is needed and authorizes reinsurance of policy.

  • Calculates standard and substandard rates and premium charges by using approved formulas and tables.

  • Consults, if necessary, with sales personnel, medical personnel, and other insurance or inspection companies to obtain further information, quote rates.  

Life Underwriter Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree (B.A) from four-year college or university.

  • Five (5) or more years individual life underwriting experience.
