Insurance Job Description

Our client is one of the largest excess and surplus wholesale brokers in the country.  They operate distinct wholesale divisions under one umbrella including two specialty public auto program.  For their national public transportation program they seek a qualified production underwriter to oversee the charter bus program.  While charter buses and motorcoach operators present hazards unique to their industry, a seasoned commercial auto or transportation underwriter will be successful in this role.  Additionally they are expanding their garage and auto repair program to include an exclusive towing product.  You'll be required to build a national program through retailers who offer significant new business opportunities.  You'll also work closely to strengthen carrier relationships and monitor loss ratios to maintain a competitive edge versus other wholesale programs.  As the program expert you'll serve in a leadership capacity for less experienced underwriters and support cross selling initiatives with other departments.

Production Underwriter Qualifications

  • 5+ years of multi-line commercial underwriting, either with an insurance carrier or with a wholesale broker, managing distinct commercial auto programs

  • Individuals accustomed to handling other commercial auto programs, i.e. transportation, taxi, limousines, auto repair, garage and towing, or various public auto fleet business can translate well into this program

  • Strong network of insurance agencies, either regionally or nationally, that will present immediate connections with their public auto books of business

  • Understanding of key markets writing charter buses and motorcoach operators including competitive analysis and important federal/DOT regulations

  • Prior supervisory or management experience is important but not required

  • Desire to market and ability to travel as needed to strengthen retail agency relationships
