Our client is a prominent property/casualty carrier on the West Coast and is a subsidiary of a Fortune 500 company. They offer a broad range of business insurance products to small and middle-market customers. They provide consultative loss prevention methods, comprehensive claims services and distribute their products to an established network of independent agents and brokers. They currently offer an opportunity to join their underwriting team as an underwriting specialist. In this position your primary responsibilities will be the training and development of less experience underwriters and underwriters new to the company. You'll educate these underwriters on company guidelines, rating methods and changes in the company product. You'll develop training schedules to improve technical underwriting skills and introduce new products or methodologies. As needed you'll also work with seasoned underwriters to enhance their technical skills. You'll coordinate efforts with other departments to share strategies and maintain consistency in the company's training. The scope of your training also extends to our client's partner agencies. You'll train and develop the agencies on rating and technical components. As needed you must be willing to travel to these offices and or train through video conferencing and web meetings. Finally this position may involve the creation of underwriting guidelines and programs. You'd monitor the implementation of new products and chart the profitability of the results. Bachelor's degree with 7+ years of underwriting team experience is required. Prior management and training experience is also required. CPCU, ARM, AU or another professional designation strongly preferred. Must have extensive knowledge of multiple commercial lines, strong interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to understand and implement underwriting concepts in accordance with our client's request.
