Our client is a prominent property/casualty carrier on the West Coast and is a subsidiary of a Fortune 500 company. They offer a broad range of business insurance products to small and middle-market customers. They provide consultative loss prevention methods, comprehensive claims services and distribute their products to an established network of independent agents and brokers. They currently offer an opportunity to join their underwriting team as a senior commercial lines underwriter. Within established company guidelines you'll rate, modify and negotiate new and renewal business to ensure company profitability. You'll manage the loss activity for each agent in your assigned territory and provide recommendations to improve loss ratio and identify patterns to diversify their book of business. In addition you'll market our client's products to new agents and further develop current relationships, i.e. monitor agency growth, quality of submissions and notify your agents of guideline and product changes. Internal responsibilities include training, mentoring and serving as a technical resource for less experience underwriters. You'll also be expected to seek out opportunities to speak at insurance conferences, join insurance associations and network within the insurance community to keep abreast of industry changes. Bachelor's degree and 6-8 years of direct underwriting experience with an insurance carrier is required. Expert knowledge of general liability, commercial auto, commercial property and inland marine coverage is also required. Must have prior experience handling a large book of complex commercial accounts. Some travel is required to visit agents in your assigned territory. CPCU or ARM designations preferred.
