Who is Capstone?

Our Story

Capstone was founded in 2002 as a search firm dedicated to the insurance industry. Our president and founder Scot Dickerson was a successful recruiter who started his career in insurance.  Being from Des Moines and at a certain point in his life and career, he wanted to control his own destiny. Like a lot of senior producers, Scot’s practice followed him and those clients became the foundation for starting Capstone. 

At that time, circa 2002 and earlier, most insurance recruiters worked only with insurance carriers.  Scot’s 25+ year career has always been and will be focused on the company side which remains a huge part of our business today. However, as we’ve grown our team has added insurance professionals from other core disciplines: Commercial, Personal Lines, Employee Benefits and retail agency production, which means today we have an equally as sizable agency practice as our carrier division.

The last 15 years have flown by, and we’re excited about the future. No matter the changes ahead, the nexus of our Capstone’s team will be in insurance recruiting.

Founder + President

Scot has been involved in the insurance industry for over 30 years. He is active in his consulting with CSG’s clients on technical and executive level search projects as well as assisting insurance professionals seeking their next opportunity. Chris Winterboer

As an insurance broker he helped the two founders of CSG create a tailored employee benefits plan, and six months later became the fourth employee. Chris thoroughly enjoys building relationships with clients and candidates alike as they seek to connect the dots in a search process. Mary Newgard

Senior Partner

Mary’s sales career has been a series of building blocks culminating in a career with CSG. Mary focuses on project development for agencies and brokers interested in producer recruiting, technical hires, executive searches, liftouts and M&A. Scott Thompson, CPC

Scott’s career began in recruiting with much success at the nation’s largest privately owned staffing firm before dedicating his efforts to insurance with CSG. Since Scott joined the team in 2006 he has been focused on developing relationships with professionals within in the insurance industry. Though he’s networked in multiple segments of the insurance market its Scott’s success partnering with agency professionals where he’s made his mark. Learn more about Scott here.


Kris Gibson, CPC

Senior Partner

Kris started his career in the insurance industry working in personal lines before joining CSG in 2008. Kris' experience and understanding of the insurance search process allows him to assist in every aspect from beginning a search through interviewing and negotiating an offer. Amy Stuntz

Search Consultant, Contract Division

Amy joined CSG in 2015 and immediately brought her background in business training along with achievements in sales and service to help manage workflow processes for new search assignments, candidate tracking, business development support and database management.
